Teaching statement and philosophy

When I think about the type of teacher I want to be. I think of my own teachers I’ve had throughout my life. Teachers that would help pick me up when I would stumble. Teachers that would be fair and honest in my failures or shortcomings, and celebrate my successes.

My teaching philosophy is one that strives for the development of lifelong learners. Learners that don’t necessarily heave forward the music theory knowledge that you pass onto them, but learners that live with an insatiable thirst for the acquisition of further knowledge. Learners that understand meaningful and effective study, what it means to be self-critical without being unfair to themselves, and learners that know that a world of information is only as far away as a question being asked.
